What is Golf Solitaire?
Golf Solitaire is a fast-paced single-player card game where every decision affects the next sequence of moves. The game focuses solely on eliminating all cards on the table by selecting the card with the value adjacent to the card currently in the pile.
How Does the Table Work?
At the start, 35 cards are divided into 7 columns on the table, all face up. However, you cannot select every card you see. Only the outermost card of each column is allowed to move. After this card is removed, the card behind it is unlocked and becomes the next choice.
Below are two important areas:
- Waste Stack: where you continuously place valid cards.
- The reserve deck (Stock): used to reveal a new card when there are no more moves on the table.
- This makes each turn constantly change because simply revealing a new card can create many different options.
Card Movement Rules
You can only choose cards that are one rank higher or lower in value than the card currently on top of the discard pile.
Examples:
- 8 can go with 7 or 9.
- Q can go with J or K.
- 4 can go with 3 or 5.
The suit is completely irrelevant. Whether it's Hearts, Diamonds, Clubs, or Spades, as long as the value matches, it can be played.
One point to note is that K and A cannot be consecutive. That is:
- K can only be paired with Q.
- A can only be paired with 2.
- This small rule makes many games much more challenging.
Creating a Chain of Cards to Clear the Table Faster
You should observe whether, after drawing a card, the newly revealed card continues the chain.
Example:
- The current hand is 8.
- You can play in sequence:
- 9 → 10 → J → 10 → 9 → 8 → 7
With just one starting card, you can eliminate multiple cards consecutively from the table without using your reserve deck.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I play an Ace on a King?
No. In this version of Golf the ranks do not wrap around. Kings and Aces are the ends of the sequence, so on a King you may play only a Queen, and on an Ace you may play only a 2.
How many passes through the stock do I get?
One. The 16 stock cards are turned onto the waste one at a time, and there are no redeals. Once the last stock card has been flipped, you must finish the game with whatever plays remain on the table.
Why do I run out of cards so quickly in Golf Solitaire?
A common reason is flipping your reserve cards too early or prioritizing shorter moves first.
Should you flip your reserve cards as soon as you have few cards left?
No. Try to make the most of every available sequence first, as each card in the reserve deck can only be used once.
